Getting started
What does ONTHEBIAS actually do?+

OTB sits between "I have a design idea" and "a supplier can make this." You chat with OBIE (our AI design partner), generate mockups, flat sketches, and tech packs, then send the spec to suppliers for quotes - all in one place.

Who is this for?+

Independent designers, emerging brands, and small-batch makers who want production-grade output without the agency overhead. Also established brands that want to move faster on new collections.

Do I need to be a trained designer to use OTB?+

No. OBIE walks you through prompts, suggests directions, and handles the technical translation. If you can describe what you want, you can ship a tech pack.

Is there a free trial?+

Two trials, actually. Every new workspace gets 50 starter credits on signup, no card required - enough to design and ship a few mockups with OBIE. Designer and Professional plans add a 7-day free trial on top: you get the full monthly credit grant (600 or 2,000) and every paid feature, and cancel before day 7 with nothing charged. Credits never expire.

OBIE & design
What is OBIE?+

OBIE is the AI design partner inside every project. It asks the right questions to refine your brief, generates mockups and flat sketches, and knows when to push back on an idea that won't produce well.

Can I bring my own moodboard, photos, or past designs?+

Yes. Upload reference images to your Brand profile and OBIE pulls from them when generating new directions. This is the fastest way to lock in your aesthetic.

How do regenerations work?+

Every generation is a credit. You can iterate freely - change the prompt, swap a color, refine a silhouette - and OBIE preserves the parts you said you liked. Iterations stay linked so the lineage is visible.

Why does the AI sometimes get garments wrong?+

Image-generation models are strongest on common silhouettes (tees, hoodies, dresses) and weakest on technical or highly novel construction. If a generation misses, refine the prompt or sketch the shape and let OBIE rebuild from your sketch.

Can I generate packaging too - hangtags, mailers, boxes?+

Yes. OBIE designs 15+ packaging surfaces: hangtags, rigid + mailer boxes, garment bags, foam inlays, tissue wraps, washi tape, stickers, gift cards. Product-specific kits cover shoes, jewelry, eyewear, watches, and handbags. Each is grounded in your brand profile and locks to the same Pantone palette as the garments.

Can OBIE generate a whole capsule from one hero design?+

Yes. The Collection Generator expands a single hero into a coherent capsule at 1 credit per SKU. The Design Mixer blends 2-3 existing assets into a new direction for 3 credits. The Lookbook PDF compile produces an editorial spread of an entire range for 8 credits.

Can I find fabric mills, not just factories?+

Yes. Browse the mill directory or ask OBIE to find mills matching your fiber, weight band, certifications (GOTS, OEKO-TEX, BLUESIGN, GRS, RWS, RDS, FSC, BCI, EU Ecolabel, LWG, C2C), and MOQ. Send mill inquiries the same way you send factory RFQs - the platform doesn't sit between you and the supplier.

Does OBIE handle trend research?+

Yes. Agentic deep trend research with live web search builds a sales-aware PDF for 5 credits (or 20 for the deepest tier). Market-fit analysis is 15 credits. Both feed back into your design briefs so the next collection answers to actual demand signal, not just taste.

Credits & billing
How do credits work?+

Credits are the universal currency for every AI action. Subscriptions include a monthly grant; you can also buy packs at any time. Credits never expire and all credits land in the same pool.

What does each action cost?+

The full live table is on /pricing under "Transparent costs". The frequent ones: mockup, flat sketch, region refine, colorway variant, fabric texture, image upscale, background removal - 1 credit. Sketch to render, graphic print, packaging artwork, styled outfit, sustainability score - 2 credits. Design mixer - 3 credits. Print or pattern, compliance docs - 4 credits. 3D render, trend report - 5 credits. Compliance deep, lookbook PDF - 8 credits. Full tech pack PDF - 12 credits. Market-fit analysis - 15 credits. Deep trend research - 20 credits. OBIE chat and the entire asset library are included free on paid plans.

Can I cancel anytime?+

Yes. Cancel from Account → Billing. You keep your unused credits forever and can still log in to access your projects.

Do you offer team or workspace plans?+

Yes. Invite teammates from Account → Team. Workspace plans share a credit pool and library across everyone with access.

Tech packs
What's in an OTB tech pack?+

Cover sheet, flat sketches (front + back, with critical detail crops), POM measurements grounded in the 228-point Spec Manual library, BOM, ISO 4915 stitch specs and ISO 4916 seam classes, construction notes, Pantone-routed colorways, care + finishing, packaging. Built from a 34-pack reference corpus so it reads factory-standard on first send - not a designer prototype a tech designer has to translate.

Can I export to my own format?+

PDF and XLSX are shipped today, plus shareable read-only links (Designer: 7 days, Professional: 30 days, Enterprise: 365 days). The Digital Product Passport can be exported as structured JSON for EU compliance filing. Native Adobe Illustrator export is on the roadmap.

Are tech packs reviewed by a human?+

Not by default - the AI produces them. For high-stakes pieces (complex tailoring, technical outerwear), you can request a human review from your project page.

Can OTB score the sustainability of a design?+

Yes. The sustainability scorer runs a lightweight LCA on each design and surfaces ranked material substitutions to lower impact. 2 credits per score.

Does the platform handle EU Digital Product Passport (DPP)?+

Yes. Every tech pack is structurally DPP-ready (fiber composition, country of manufacture, recycled content, care instructions). You can export the passport as JSON for EU compliance filing. Regional variant generation handles country-specific labeling and material rules across US, EU, UK, Japan, China, Brazil, India, and Australia.

Suppliers & RFQs
How does the supplier marketplace work?+

When your tech pack is ready, OTB matches you to suppliers based on garment type, quantity, region, and capability. You send an RFQ (request for quote) to as many suppliers as you want and the platform routes responses back to you.

How are suppliers chosen?+

Every supplier is either curated from our network or applied through /factory/signup and was approved by us. We verify business identity, capability claims, and at least one reference where possible.

Do you take a cut of the order?+

No. ONTHEBIAS takes 0% commission - the full price you accept goes to the supplier, who keeps 100%. A standard payment-processing fee is added at checkout (it covers card / ACH / wire costs), and suppliers pay nothing to list. We make our money on subscriptions and credits, not a take-rate on your production.

Can I bring my own supplier?+

Yes. Invite an existing supplier partner to claim a profile and you can send RFQs and run production through them on the platform.

How big is the factory network?+

904 vetted factories across 48 countries, indexed on garment type, MOQ band, certifications, price tier, and lead time. The platform's AI ranks matches per RFQ; you can also search the directory and reach out directly.

Samples & production
How do samples work?+

After a supplier accepts your RFQ, you request a physical sample through the project. The supplier makes it, ships it, and you log QC notes + photos. You can request additional iterations from the same supplier or move on.

What happens after I approve a sample?+

Approving a sample is the production go-ahead signal. The supplier submits a final quote, you pay through OTB, and the order moves into production. Status updates land in your Orders tab.

How long does production take?+

Typical lead times: 4-6 weeks for basics, 6-8 weeks for tailored or lined garments, 8+ weeks for outerwear or technical pieces. Suppliers publish their own lead-time bucket on their profile.

Does the platform handle production payments?+

Yes. Stripe Connect Express moves payments from brand to supplier with milestone presets (100% advance, 50/50, 30/70) plus development-stage fees, fabric-in milestones, cancellation handling, and multi-currency. Slope BNPL is available for qualified orders. The supplier sees 100% of the order value - payment processing is paid by the brand at checkout.

Can I get a human expert finish on a tech pack?+

Yes, on Professional and Enterprise. Send to Atelier hands the project to a fashion-industry specialist for final review and detailing. Professional includes 4 finishes per month (rolling - they don't expire); Enterprise is unlimited.

IP & ownership
Do I own what I design on ONTHEBIAS?+

Yes. Every flat sketch, mockup, tech pack, print, label, and packaging design you make here is yours. Download, license, modify, sell - your IP.

Who can see what's in my workspace?+

Only people you invite. Workspaces are isolated at the database layer - no other user can see in. OTB staff can only access your data while resolving a support ticket or security incident, and every access is logged in your account for you to review.

How are my files stored and shared?+

Files are encrypted at rest. Asset URLs inside the studio are 15-minute signed links tied to your session. Share links you create (tech packs, lookbooks, supplier handoffs) expire after 30 days and can be revoked from your account instantly.

Do suppliers see my full brand profile?+

No. Suppliers see only the RFQ - the garment spec, quantity, target country, and match rationale. Your brand name, logo, and unrelated projects are not exposed.

The platform
Where is ONTHEBIAS based?+

ONTHEBIAS, INC. is a Delaware corporation operating from San Francisco. The supplier network is global.

Can I plan production timelines on the platform?+

Yes. Set per-project schedules, apply T&A (time + action) templates, see an overdue-milestones list, and share a read-only timeline link with your team or suppliers.

Does OTB integrate with my existing tools?+

Shopify (sales + product sync) on Professional+, Google Drive and Dropbox (file sync), Pinterest (board import for moodboards), QuickBooks (accounting). REST API access is included on Professional+; SCIM provisioning is on Enterprise.

I'm coming over from the legacy ONTHEBIAS site - what changes?+

Your account, files, and subscription level migrate over. Existing subscribers and customers who spent meaningful amounts on the legacy site land on the new Designer tier; everyone else starts on Starter and can upgrade anytime. Your asset library carries forward. You'll get a magic-link invite to the new platform.
